Living in the mid-west has some amazing perks, but the weather is not one of them! It’s April 4th and has been spring for two weeks now but we have yet to see 60 degrees. We have had a few days of 50’s and sunshine and we couldn’t get outside fast enough, but here we are with 30 degrees and snow. That’s right we woke up this morning to snow on the ground and ice under it since it rained all day yesterday! Having grown up here I am use to long winters and weather that changes 20 degrees all spring and fall, but now it is so different.
Now I have a daughter who loves to be outside! She would be outside playing all day long every day if she could. So I have an upset toddler and a baby who could really use some space from her big sister and I am just ready for some nice weather. And we tried the whole playing in the snow but Adella hates wearing gloves and cried saying “clean up the snow” HAHA. She really wasn’t a fan until it started to melt and then we had puddles and it was game on! She wanted those dinosaur rain boots on so we could stomp in the puddles. But once those puddles were gone she said “we need to get puddles at the store”! Store time….
So we were at a birthday party out in the sticks and it was 40 and sunny but the ground was covered in snow! Adella of course wanted to wear her dinosaur boots and show her friends and walk in the snow. The girls played for hours and it was time to go! Adella said she wanted to walk in the snow so I went to put Delta in the car and let Adella walk in the snow until I was ready for her. Two short minutes later Adella is crying “mommy help, mommy help” I run over to see her stuck! I mean like a cartoon, one shoe off stuck in the mud and she is up to her knees in mud. Her arms are covered from her trying to hoist herself out and her sippy cup is completely buried in the mud! I felt bad for her, but I couldn’t help but chuckle and I kick myself every day for not snapping a quick picture of her for future giggles!
It has been weeks and she still talks about being stuck in the mud. I can’t help but smile any time I think about it because it really was funny, but I am so ready to get outside and make some more memories! Feeding cows, planting the garden, bird watching, hikes, parks, and Adella got a fishing pole for Easter that she is so excited to use! What does your family like to do outside?
